AMAZON MUSIC SPRINT

The World's Fist Digital,
Audio Neighborhood

In order to rise up the competitive ranks, Amazon Music must redefine itself in the streaming landscape. As fans and creators continue to find ways to get closer on social platforms, Amazon Music has an opportunity to be the first streaming platform that fully connects these groups beyond just the product. So where can individuals meet on equal footing, getting to know each other both professionally and personally? The Neighborhood.

*Our team pitched this to the Strategy and Design teams at Amazon Music as part of a student competition. We had just four days to develop the concept and prototype. As the only first-year team among second-year teams, we were honored to win second place.

Welcome to Amazon's Neighborhood:

Amazon Music is currently closing in on 100 million customers globally, and today is considered the third largest streaming service after Spotify and Apple Music. In an effort to grow and remain competitive, Amazon Music has released a variety of features and products including DJ Mode, live concerts, Twitch streams, music videos, merch, and even customizable profile info. However, these capabilities are still very new for Amazon Music, and are either available through a separate portal experience, or require heavily manual production processes. Additionally, there is a limited feedback loop to accommodate 2-way communication between creators & fans. Overall, it feels more like a platform of mashed-up tools and features, and less like a well-defined ecosystem.

What we honed in on:

  • Innovate on behalf of Amazon Music’s Customers

  • Bring creators to the forefront of our app and closer to customers than ever before

  • Include mechanisms to encourage creators to continue to engage with the service and, by extension, the creators

  • Ease the creation and upload of content from the creator community

The Opportunity:

No one has explored past the fan to product or fan to fan relationship. Our group positioned ourselves as a champion for the creator to fan relationship.

The Block Party:
Mr. Turner (from the band, Palace) invites you in to see what it's like to live in this digital neighborhood
